Say goodbye to excessive heat loss and high energy bills by fitting new double glazing. You’ll also be able to reduce noise, a welcome benefit if you live in a built-up suburban area. Discover thermally-efficient double glazing, professionally installed by the Atlantic Windows team.
Double glazing comprises two panes of glass. A gap separates them and is pumped full of argon gas, which is heavy, slow-moving, and serves to act as an insulating barrier. The argon prevents cold air from transferring to the inner pane, keeping your home warm and cosy and preventing condensation forming.

Do I really need to replace my double glazing?
As we mentioned earlier, double glazing is an investment. Expect high-quality windows that have been professionally installed to last between 20-30 years. Eventually, though, your product will degrade, which means it won’t perform as well. Over a period of years, for example, the argon gas between the panes will leak out. This means your windows will become less efficient at retaining heat and blocking out noise.
Replace your windows with our high-quality product instead and enjoy a home that is draught-free and cosy during winter. For your peace of mind, all our glass is A-rated, which means your heating bills are sure to drop.

What’s the recommended gap for double glazing?
Double glazing excels at thermal retention and noise reduction because of the gap between its glazed panes. This heavy gas stops cold air from transferring to the inner pane and making your home cold.
In our experience, a 28mm thick unit with a 20mm gap between the glass panes is most effective. Our units are pumped full of argon gas, which is extremely effective at preventing cold transfer.
Our energy-efficient windows will help you reduce your heating bills and your carbon footprint at the same time.
Will double glazing stop condensation forming?
It most certainly will. When warm air strikes a cold surface, droplets of moisture gather and become condensation. Because double glazing comprises two glass panes filled with heavy gas, heat is slower to transfer. This means that the exterior pane will be cold and the interior one the ambient temperature of your property.
You may notice condensation outside your glass from time to time. This is nothing to worry about. The problem will vanish once the outdoor temperature rises.
If there’s little heat contrast between your inner space and cold window, you will wake up to find your windows with much less condensation.
perfectly normal and will clear once the temperature rises outside your home.
Without the heat contrast between the inside air and the cold window, you can wake up after a cold night and open your curtains to find your windows condensation-free! In some rooms you may still get a small build up of condensation but this will be due to a lack of heat in the room or poor ventilation.
Will double glazing make my home quieter?
Sound can travel through single glazing without much effort. Because double glazing is formed of two gas-filled panes, sound waves have a harder time penetrating into your living space.
Why is this? Argon gas is heavier than normal air. Its soundwave properties are also different. This makes it tougher for noise to find a way through the glass into your home. If you want to enjoy superior sound insulation – but without thick, weighty glass – ask about our Stadip Silence windows when calling.
What is double glazing?
It features two glass panes rather than one. These panes sit within a window frame that’s deprived of atmospheric air and filled with argon gas instead. This gas is heavier than normal air, almost completely preventing heat transfer.
Double glazing will make your home more thermally efficient. It will also reduce the size of your energy bills and make your rooms more comfortable during colder weather.
Will my double glazing last a long time?
Provided you look after your windows, then yes. Before buying, make sure your units are A-rated or higher. That way, your product will be more thermally efficient. Also, make sure you instruct a professional installer to complete the work. A robust window frame is essential if you want to prevent draughts.
If you have to heat your home more, your double glazing may have reached the end of its lifespan. A good way of telling is to touch the inner pane of your window. Does it feel cold? If so, it’s probably time to replace your units.
