Add a touch of charm to your home
French windows deliver superior views, which is why they’re commonly used on upper floors. Homeowners also use them at ground level in place of a fire escape where an existing opening isn’t big enough to satisfy regulatory requirements.

Are French windows and doors the same thing?
They open and close identically. The key difference is located in their handles and locking systems. This is because of their different sizes. A French door, for example, has to be big enough for a person to walk through. Security requirements will also vary.
The frames of French door and its sash are thicker than those of its window cousin. Dimensions also vary. Doors are thinner and taller. Despite these obvious differences, each feature two side hung sashes. These open out from the centre, with no intervening pillar separating them. When both are fully opened, you’ll benefit from an uncluttered view of your garden.
French doors tend to be used on ground floors. French windows can be used on any level of your home.
doors are open, you have an unobstructed view of the outside.
French doors are most often used as doors that open out into the garden, whereas French windows are smaller and can be used on any floor. They give you increased ventilation and a fabulous view!
How did the French window get its name?
To understand the origins of this ever-popular window style, you’d need to travel back to the Renaissance. During the 17th century, something of a revolution was happening in the worlds of architecture and art.
One of the new ideas arising from this movement was to use light more effectively in homes. More glass was used in the construction of windows to achieve this
You won’t be surprised to hear that this trend originated in France. It quickly grew in popularity thereafter and became commonplace throughout Western Europe within just a few decades.
How secure will my French windows be?
We only use the best quality materials, including strong glazing and market-leading locking mechanisms. Your safety is our absolute priority which is why, for your peace of mind, our products satisfy in full the requirements of Secured By Design: a police-led initiative designed to drive down burglary rates UK-wide.
Three-point locking systems, high-security hinges, and locking shoot-bolts are used in conjunction with thermally toughened glass (which is important if the window is located on ground level).
Once our installers have completed work, they’ll demonstrate how to secure your windows properly.
Do French windows swing in or out?
In most cases, they open outwards. This means they won’t infringe upon your interior space. You can request friction hinges that open up to 60-degrees, or egress windows that can achieve 90-degrees and function as a viable fire exit. The hinges aren’t affected by the wind but we can adjust your windows to open and close how you wish.
What are the benefits of French windows?
First and foremost, they deliver unrivalled views of the outdoors. This means you can look out on your garden at any time of year, no matter what the weather is doing outside. These windows excel at letting in cool air, which will keep your home feeling fresh and reduce the chance of mould developing in your rooms. That’s without mentioning the increased amount of light.
