PVCu or aluminium?
Our sliding patio doors are available in PVCu or aluminium, both of which are durable and easy to look after. Choose from two, three or four panes and enjoy doors that are easy to operate and which act as a practical access point.
A logical alternative to bi-fold doors, the patio style is ideal if your home is often dark. The extensive use of glass will ensure your rooms are washed through with lots of light that’ll make your spaces seem larger.

How do sliding patio doors open?
They are easy to operate and highly secure when closed. Simply turn the handle at an angle to release the door, then slide it open as far as you need. Our patio doors move on rollers, which means the movement is fluid.
Once we’ve completed work, we’ll show you how to use your patio doors – so you can get the most out of them.
How wide will a two-panel sliding glass door be?
Sliding doors are ideal for smaller homes because they don’t need swing space. Be aware that only one half of the door can open at any given time. A standard sized door is typically 1.8m (6ft) and would create a 90cm (3ft) opening into your garden.
At Atlantic Windows, we can build patio doors to your preferred size. Whether your space is small or large, contact us to see how we can help.
What is a lift and slide patio door?
It uses an alternative mechanism to standard patio doors. When closing a lift and slide door, it comes off the track. This motion secures it in the closed position and stops draughts entering. Simply turn the handle and once again lift to engage the opening mechanism, then roll it to your desired position.
The door can be lowered off the track at any point to fix it in position to let in a smaller breeze or to stop kids or pets getting into the garden.
We also offer a stylish range of aluminium patio doors that range up to 5400mm in width and use just two panes of glass.
How energy efficient are patio doors?
It depends on the quality of the doors and whether you want a PVCu or aluminium frame. Do you want double or triple glazing? This will also influence how energy efficient your doors are.
Make sure your doors have an excellent locking system and look out for A-rated glass with a low U-value (the lower the score, the less heat will escape).
We manufacture our doors to specification, and we also offer Super Energy Efficient glass. Contact us and we’ll tell you about it; rest assured, you will have total control over your patio doors.
Are sliding doors easy to break into?
Despite being heavily glazed, no. Our double and triple glazed glass is very hard to break and thermally toughened comes as standard with any door or window 800mm below floor height. State-of-the-art locking mechanisms keep our exterior doors safe and every product in our range is approved by Secured by Design – a police-led initiative designed to reduce burglary rates UK-wide.
